Big Blue Links for Tuesday morning:
Mark Wiedmer of the Chattanooga Times Free Press on John Wall: “It happened 15 days ago, the blue and white confetti covering first-year Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari’s carefully coiffed hair like a heavy snow. Pumped up by Kool and the Gang’s classic “Celebration,” his Wildcats surrounded him, dancing, singing and laughing atop Rupp Arena’s floor. Up in the stands, nary one of the 24,364 seats empty, adults of all ages shared tears of joy.”
Jerry Tipton of the Herald-Leader says CBS crew defends ejection talk: “During halftime, CBS announcers Tim Brando and Seth Davis stationed in New York said Cousins’ actions merited an ejection and automatic suspension from Kentucky’s next game. Brando and Davis stood by those comments when contacted yesterday.”
Bluegrass State Basketball reports that UK will visit Ricardo Ratliffe.
Jennifer Smith of the Herald-Leader talks to the players about Brooks: ” There was the Rich Brooks that stalked the sidelines for seven seasons. ‘He’d walk around with those sunglasses on, and he’d always say, ‘It’s a great day to be alive and be a Wildcat,’ ‘ junior defensive lineman Ricky Lumpkin said. ‘I’m going to miss that a lot.’”
Aaron’s UK Football Blog says UK may have lost two commitments: “Reportedly (from Scout), a total of 2, 2010 UK commits are no longer a part of that class. Rumors swirl that Anterrio Sloan (CB) West Helena Central HS (AR), and Davin Hawkins (SS) Etowah HS (AL) are no longer are part of UKs future.”
Tom Leach on Brooks’ retirement: “The fourth quarter used to be a time when Kentucky fans were fearful of holding onto leads. Now, they’re comfortable being behind–because they believe that their Cats have a chance to win. Maybe they’re not as confident as they are when Kentucky trails with a minute or two left at Rupp Arena, but the fact that they do have hope in a testament to the mindset Rich Brooks changed in the Kentucky football program.”
UK Football Fan on Brooks’ retirement: “In the end, I think a couple of things were in play. First, Brooks is tired, and really did not want to coach any more. If UK had won its bowl game or ended the Tennessee streak, he would have had a very easy decision. Instead, he had to decide if he could make it one more year to try to end on a more positive note. This bleeds into what I believe is the second factor, i.e. that Brooks decided that he has taken UK Football about as far as he can take it.”
