Greg Luca of the Independent Florida Alligator, the university’s student newspaper, has a good feature on UK freshman guard Brandon Knight and Florida sophomore guard Kenny Boynton, who will be re-united on Saturday when the Cats meet the Gators in Gainesville.

The two Florida natives were AAU teammates and friendly high school rivals.

An excerpt:

The two teams faced off seven times in a two-year span, with Knight’s squad coming out on top on four occasions.

The most notable of those was the last, a 61-59 win for Pine Crest in the Class 3A regional semifinals. Knight scored 26 points, and Boynton notched 20 but missed a game-tying free throw in the closing moments.

While their relationship has grown stale as the gap between the two has widened, Boynton and Knight are still friends who once spoke on an almost daily basis.

Boynton is averaging 13 points per game for the Gators. Knight is averaging 17.2 per game for the Cats.
