Greg Anthony gets a thumbs up

As you may have noticed, I closed the poll concerning Greg Anthony’s debut as CBS college basketball in-game analyst, doing last Saturday’s UK-Indiana game.

Anthony was a hit. He received 54 “excellent” votes, while 31 thought he was “good,” with just 13 clicking the “so-so” button, and there were actually five souls out there who voted for “bring back Billy Packer.”

From what I’ve heard, most thought Anthony was honest and refreshing on Saturday. One often-noted criticism of college hoops on the tube is that it’s the same analysts year after year. Norman Chad has often written that televised college basketball is much like a soap opera, you could take a couple of years off, tune in again and its the same cast of characters behind the mics. Anthony provides a different voice.

As a bonus, UK voice Tom Leach has an interview with Anthony in which the analyst talks about his impressions of Kentucky after last Saturday’s game.
