Up next for DaJuan Coleman: Ohio State

After attending Big Blue Madness last weekend, New York state center prospect DaJuan Coleman will put on his traveling shoes and head over to Columbus this weekend to check out Ohio State.

Zagsblog reports that the Buckeyes will mark the second stop on a three-way Coleman tour, which will finish with a trip to Syracuse.

Ohio State coach Thad Matta has been using his own big man, Jared Sullinger, to work on Coleman, who is ranked No. 11 by Scout and No. 27 by Rivals.

Kentucky target Dajuan Coleman visiting Ohio State

DaJuan Coleman

Upstate New York big man DaJuan Coleman is visiting Ohio State this weekend, reports Zagsblog.

Coleman took a visit to Syracuse on Thursday, and says he will also visit Kentucky.

The other piece of news is that the 6-foot-8 center, ranked No. 18 by Rivals, also plans on taking a visit to Florida.

An excerpt:

“It was good just to finally get out and see the [Ohio State] campus and staff,” he said by text. “The coaching staff was cool. I’m just looking at all my options and planning to see Kentucky, Syracuse and Florida.”

Kentucky and Syracuse were thought to be the leaders on Coleman, until he developed a friendship with Ohio State center Jared Sullinger. Now, apparently Billy Donovan is in the mix.

Syracuse and Kentucky, and maybe not in that order, were considered the two favorites for upper-New York state big man DaJuan Coleman.

That was until Jared Sullinger stepped into the picture.

According to Zagsblog, Sullinger now has Coleman thinking seriously about Ohio State.

Excerpt:

But now that Coleman has spent more time this summer with Ohio State big man Jared Sullinger, the Buckeyes are on level ground with the Orange and the Wildcats.

“They’re definitely equal now that I did a little more research and stuff like that,” Coleman told SNY.tv by phone from the adidas Nations event in Los Angeles.

It was going to be tough enough for Kentucky to poach Coleman from Jim Boehiem’s backyard. Now the Cats have another foe to fight. Maybe John Calipari should show Coleman the video of Kentucky’s NCAA Tournament win over the Buckeyes.

DaJuan Coleman wants to attend Midnight Madness

Zagsblog reports that DaJuan Coleman is in hopes of being at Midnight Madness on Oct. 15.

The coveted center from Jim Boeheim’s backyard has been on John Calipari’s radar for quite awhile now. Though some believe Coleman will end up wearing Orange, Calipari is not among them. And Coleman certainly has a keen interest in the Cats.

A source with knowledge, according to Adam Zagoria, says, “He wants to go to Kentucky for Midnight Madness.”

He won’t be alone, that’s for sure.

Syracuse and Kentucky are “1 and 1a” for Coleman

As the July recruiting period heats up, CBS Sports is profiling the top prospects. Jeff Borzello penned a run-down on upstate-New York big man DaJuan Coleman, who is not the son of Derrick but plenty good anyway.

Coleman lists Syracuse, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio State, West Virginia and Connecticut as his choices, but his AAU coach tells Borzello that Syracuse and Kentucky are “1 and 1a.”

Excerpt from Borzello’s story:

Coleman, a 6-foot-9, 280-lb. center from Jamesville-Dewitt (N.Y.), is ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the CBSSports.com/MaxPreps 2012 rankings. When compared to the other top players in the country, though, it’s often with the caveat that Coleman doesn’t have the same potential.

He is a wide body and prefers to bang around the basket but doesn’t have the eye-popping athleticism that Andre Drummond or Isaiah Austin possess. Hart disagrees, pointing out that Coleman broke the Sparq testing record for a high school athlete when he was evaluated in January.

Kentucky, Syracuse showing Coleman “most love”

Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog writes that New York center Dajuan Coleman, a highly-rated 2012 prospect, is gaining a lot of attention.

So who is paying the most attention?

An excerpt:

“It’s going to be somebody and Syracuse,” Hart said Wednesday. “If there’s five or six schools, the final two is probably going to be somebody and Syracuse.”

Could that “somebody” be Kentucky?

“Obviously, Kentucky and Syracuse are showing him the most love of late,” Hart said.
