Bluegrass Hoops talked to Nashville area prep star Alex Poythress after John Calipari and staff visited the Nashville prep star’s home on Thursday.

Poythress said he had a lot of questions for Calipari.

Excerpt:

There were other subjects tossed around, but Poythress said the majority of the discussion came from where Alex would play.

“There were a lot of questions thrown around, but it was mostly about where I would play and how well I fit in,” he explained. “I think it went really well.”

Poythress, a 6-foot-7 forward, is ranked No. 16 nationally by Scout and No. 19 by Rivals. He recently visited Vanderbilt, and has Duke, Memphis and Florida also on his list.

Calipari is scheduled to visit Kansas prep star Perry Ellis’ home tonight.

Nashville prep star Alex Poythress told the National Recruiting Spotlight that he had a good unofficial visit to Kentucky and that the Cats are probably his favorite at this point.

But the 6-foot-8 forward is not ready to commit.

Excerpt:

Although, unlike his sister, Poythress has visited many schools. “I’ve been to Vanderbilt, Georgia, Florida, Memphis, Alabama and Tennessee before,” Poythress said. “Kentucky was probably my favorite, I have no other visits planned.”

As for a timetable, Poythress isn’t sure when he will commit or take his visits but he does want to cut his list soon. Said Poythress, “My list should be cut in a couple of days to five schools, I’m going to try to take official visits to all five.”

Alex Poythress

This morning’s Tennessean profiles Alex Poythress, the Nashville prep star who has been drawing instance from multiple schools, including Kentucky.

As the story states, Poythress was cut from his sixth-grade team, only to blossom into a high school star. ESPN ranks Poythress No. 17 in the Class of 2012. Rivals has the 6-foot-8 forward ranked 38th. Scout ranks him as the fourth best small forward in the class.

An excerpt:

“He very well might get an offer from Duke, and then that would really shake things up,” Meyer said. “Duke would be like the wild card that comes in late and steals him from the schools that have been recruiting him for a longer time. Kentucky could be a factor as well, but Vanderbilt, Florida and Memphis have really recruited him hard for a long time.”

One thing Poythress can do is tweet. Judging by his twitter account, @AlexTheGreat22, he is addicted. And back on July 1, Poythress tweeted, “”just got done working out! and got a call from coach cal!”
