Media Approval Ratings: Dick Vitale

With conference basketball swinging into gear, we move the Media Approval Ratings to the men and women who bring us the games. That means broadcasters, as in play-by-play broadcasters and color analysts. With ESPN handling the honors for Tuesday night’s Kentucky-Florida tilt inside the O-Dome, we start with WWL’s lead analyst, the now Hall of Famer Dick Vitale.

Media Approval Ratings: Chip Cosby

Media Approval Ratings motors on toward the holiday with Chip Cosby, the Herald-Leader’s beat man for Kentucky football. You may remember Chip from his PTI’s focus on his 40-yard dash time.

Media Approval Ratings: Jerry Tipton

Today in the Media Approval Ratings, we move on to the Lexington Herald-Leader’s Kentucky basketball beat writer Jerry Tipton, a member of the U.S. Basketball Writers Hall of Fame. I know, I know, Jerry isn’t going to score highly here, but he is one of, if not the best basketball reporters in the country. Not that I’m trying to influence your vote.

So what say you on Jerry Tipton, thumbs-up or thumbs-down?

Media Approval Ratings: Me

As promised, we are returning to the Media Approval Ratings.

And as promised, we’re giving you the chance to give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down on the print media.

Figured this would be a good week to do it, what with there being no games for a few days. Kentucky doesn’t return to action until Saturday’s matchup with Austin Peay at Rupp. And we’re still a couple of weeks away from the Cats’ Music City Bowl appearance. Remember, that’s Dec. 27 in Nashville.

We’re going to start with approval ratings on the Herald-Leader writers first, starting with me. Then we’ll continue on through the other local writers, state writers, even the blogs, etc.

The plan is to make this a daily feature for the foreseeable future.

My mother always said never put yourself first, but I figured the right thing to do is to put myself out there first.

So here’s your chance to let me have it.

What say you, thumbs-up or thumbs-down?

Media Approval Ratings: Dave Neal

Dave Neal

Dave Neal

The Media Approval Ratings continue today with Dave Neal, the play-by-play half of the SEC Network. Dave is a holdover from the Dave-Dave-Dave trio of the Jefferson Pilot/Lincoln Financial/Raycom SEC Network days. When ESPN bought the contract, it decided to keep Neal, while bringing in Andre Ware as color commentator. Dave is the son of Bob Neal, who at one time did play-by-play on the SEC TV Network.

So what say you on Dave Neal, thumbs-up or thumbs-down?
