BBL: Kentucky football’s big Yahtzee day

Kentucky football recruiting made a strong 2017 splash on Tuesday, going “Triple Yahtzee” while reeling in a pair of four-star prospects from the Toledo area. Michael Warren, a four-star running back from Toledo Central Central, committed to the Cats. James Hudson, a four-star 270-pound lineman, and Warren teammate, also committed to UK. This came after Russ Yeast, son of former UK star wide receiver Craig Yeast, also committed to Kentucky.

In more football news, UK 2016 commit Kash Daniel says he plans to enroll early. The Paintsville linebacker is considered to be one of the leaders of next year’s class. And through Mark Stoops first two seasons as Kentucky coach, several of his commits have been early enrollees — including Drew Barker in 2014 and C.J. Conrad in 2015, among several others.

Sacramento Kings forward Omri Casspi took some of his teammates and friends to his native Israel, where former UK star DeMarcus Cousins took a mudbath in the Dead Sea. “We were a little nervous about going to Jerusalem,” Casspi told Ailene Voisin of the Sacramento Bee early Tuesday morning, “but we had a great time. Thousands of people followed us when we walked around the Wall and the shops. DeMarcus was like a rock star. Everybody wanted to be around him.” The story has a great picture of Cousins after his mudbath.

On a podcast with ESPNU, UK coach John Calipari talked about Alex Poythress’ return. Poythress sprinted recently for the first time, though he has not been cleared to play, as yet. Calipari also said that he wants Jamal Murray to play with the Canadian National Team as long as he can before school officially starts. And Cal said he might just coach until he is 73. He even talked about possibly coaching his son Brad as a walk-on.

Long-time NBA assistant Brendan Suhr is joining the staff at LSU as associate coach. If you remember, the Tigers had coaxed John Treloar into a return to Baton Rouge, only to have Treloar change his mind at the last minute and stay with the Phoenix Suns. Suhr is an experienced coach who should help Johnny Jones with the Xs and Os for the job. He also has plenty of NBA connections.

Arkansas forward Jacorey Williams has been linked to a pair of alleged assaults. Williams was one of three Arkansas players arrested last week in fraud charges. The other two were Anton Beard and Dustin Thomas.

Georgia football’s questions extend from quarterback to pass receiving corp. The Bulldogs must pick a quarterback from a group that now includes Virginia transfer Greyson Lambert. And Georgia lost its best wide receiver, Chris Conley, to the NFL.
