Kentucky’s A.J. Reed reaches agreement with Astros

MLB.com reports that former UK baseball star A.J. Reed has reached an agreement with the Houston Astros and will sign Wednesday.

Reed was the first selection in the second round of the MLB Draft last week, No. 42 overall. He hit 23 homers with a slugging percentage of .735. As a pitcher, he won 12 games and posted an ERA of 2.09, but he’ll concentrate on playing the field with Houston.

Brian McTaggart asked Reed if he would miss pitching.

“I don’t know if that’s something I can tell right now,” he said. “I’m excited that I finally can focus on one area.”
