Its offensive production already a worry, Cincinnati might be without its cleanup hitter for the next month, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Citing sources, John Fay reports that Bruce has a torn meniscus in his left knee that will require surgery. The Reds’ rightfielder could be out three weeks to a month.
The Reds are currently 22nd in the major leagues in run scored and 15th in batting average.
Todd Frazier’s walk-off double gave Cincinnati a 4-3 win over Milwaukee on Sunday as the Reds took three of four from the first place Brewers. Cincinnati is now 15-16 on the season.
In Bruce’s absence, manager Bryan Price will probably rely on Chris Heisey and Skip Schumaker, the latter having just been activated from the disabled list. Schumaker led off and played centerfield on Sunday. He was 0-for-5 at the plate.
Bruce did pinch-hit Sunday, striking out in his only at-bat. He’s hitting just .216 on the season with three home runs and 14 RBI. He is a career .255 hitter with a 167 homers.
