SEC: LSU, Florida, Missouri, Arkansas win

SEC basketball roundup for Thursday:

LSU tripped up visiting Mississippi State 91-82 as the Tigers prepare to visit Rupp Arena on Saturday. Freshmen paced the home team as Jarell Martin led the way with 20 points and Jordan Mickey added 19. Mississippi State shot 50 percent, but LSU shot 50.8. Mississippi State has lost eight straight games.

Auburn’s chances at a monster upset in Gainesville fell apart at the end, and the Tigers lost to Florida 71-67. It was the 18th straight victory for the Gators, a school record. Patric Young scored all of his 17 points in the second half to help Billy Donovan’s club move to 13-0 in league play.

Missouri made a late run to knock off visiting Vanderbilt 67-64. The host Tigers went on a 13-2 run to lift their SEC record to 7-6. Missouri scored 47 points in the second half to pick up its third straight win.

Arkansas got 20 points from Michael Qualls and beat visiting South Carolina 71-64. The Gamecocks have lost 17 straight road games, but they did cut a seven-point deficit to two with 21.5 seconds remaining. Brenton Williams scored 29 for Carolina.

And if you missed it from Tuesday, Georgia laid an egg at Tennessee, losing 67-48. Jarnell Stokes had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Volunteers.

Alabama travels to Texas A&M Thursday night in a game between teams trying to avoid playing the first night of the SEC Tournament. Texas A&M is 5-7. Alabama is 4-8.
