In his effort to turn around the UK football program, Mark Stoops has demanded total commitment from his players. On Thursday, the new coach made good on that promise.
UK announced that starting wide receiver Demarco Robinson has been suspended indefinitely, and that starting cornerback Cody Quinn and star freshman defensive end Jason Hatcher have been suspended for Saturday’s game at Georgia.
I’m hearing that at least a couple more names are coming, although UK says it has “no comment on that at this time,” according to the Herald-Leader’s Jennifer Smith.
UK says the suspensions are for a “violation of team rules.”
Stoops means business. If nothing else in this 2-8 season, he wants to set a definite tone of dedication and doing things the right way. Do your job. Prepare the right way. Follow the rules. That goes for starters as well as backups, for veterans as well as freshmen.
That message doesn’t always happen overnight. If Stoops gets UK football turned around, we might look back at Thursday as an important day.
