Since we just looked at Mississippi State football’s 10-year trend, and with UK meeting the Bulldogs on Thursday, Oct. 24 in Starkville, here’s a look at the last 10 meetings between the two schools.
Mississippi State has won four straight and six of the last 10 meetings between the two permanent opposite-division opponents. In fact, MSU head coach Dan Mllen is a perfect 4-0 against Kentucky. Mullen beat Rich Brooks in 2009, then won all three head-to-head meetings with former UK coach Joker Phillips.
All four games have been relatively close. The first two were decided by a touchdown. State won the 2011 game by 12 points and the 2012 game by 13 points. The bad news: Because of a scheduling quirk brought about by league expansion, the last two games were both played in Lexington.
Before Mullen’s domination, State had lost five of the previous seven games against UK. Sylvester Croom was 2-3 against the Cats, with all those games coming against Brooks.
Brooks was 4-3 against State as the Kentucky coach. Guy Morriss was 1-1. Hal Mumme was 1-3.
