Kentucky football’s 10-year trend

This is the sixth in a series looking at the 10-year tends of SEC football teams.

Here is a look at Kentucky’s 10-year trend.

After five straight bowl appearances, the bottom dropped out for Kentucky the past two years. Joker Phillips’ club slipped to 5-7 in 2010 and then caved to 2-10 last season, costing the former UK wide receiver, and the offensive coordinator under Rich Brooks, his job.

Brooks had methodically built a foundation for a program that had been on probation. After a 2-9 mark in 2004 and a 3-8 record in 2005, the Cats broke through to go 8-5 in 2006, then they upset No. 1-ranked LSU on the way to an 8-5 mark in 2007. The progress plateaued as the Cats recorded consecutive 7-6 records in 2008 and 2009, and Brooks retired.

Now comes Mark Stoops, the former Florida State defensive coordinator, whose arrival and recruiting has stirred considerable excitement in the fan base.
