Arkansas football’s 10-year trend

We continue with our second in a series of looking at the 10-year trend of an SEC football team.

Here’s a look at Arkansas’ 10-year trend.

Truth to be told, the Razorbacks’ trend toppled the moment that Bobby Petrino wrecked that motorcycle outside of Fayetteville last summer. Turns out a female staffer was on the back of that motorcycle. Turns out the staffer was a former mistress of Petrino and had been recently hired to the support staff in the football office. Bye-bye, Bobby.

Another former Louisville coach, John L. Smith, served as interim coach a year ago, and the Razorbacks dropped from 11-2 with a Sugar Bowl in over Ohio State to 4-8 last season. Smith was ushered out of town. (He’s now head coach at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.) Athletic Director Jeff Long, formerly the AD at Eastern Kentucky University, hired Bret Bielema away from Wisconsin. All Bielema did in Madison was take the Badgers to three straight Rose Bowls.

Petrino proved that you can win games in Fayetteville. He was 34-17 in his four seasons there, including a 21-5 mark his last two years. Before Petrino, Houston Nutt was 75-48.
