A look at Joker Phillips’ first UK signee class

I’m in the process of studying Kentucky’s past football signees, starting with 2010. That was Joker Phillips’ first season as the UK head coach after spending time as the head-coach-in-waiting under Rich Brooks. Phillips had been recruiting coordinator under Brooks, so this was hardly his first group of signees at Kentucky. It was his first as a head coach.

There were 25 scholarship newcomers in the class, which included one junior college player in Mychal Bailey. Eight of the newcomers came from Georgia and four from South Carolina. Tennessee, Ohio and Kentucky each produced three. Florida produced two signees. There was one signee from Alabama and Louisiana.

Let’s eliminate Bailey for the moment. He’s already graduated. Of the other 24 signees, 14 are still on the team. Nine of those 14 have started games. There are 65 total starts spread among those nine.

Donte Rumph (18 starts), Avery Williamson (12) and Miles Simpson (11) are the only three to have double-digit starts.

Here’s a chart of the 2010 signees:
