After South Warren defensive tackle Adrian Middleton committed to Kentucky on Saturday, the next big recruiting name ready to announce is Derek Kief, four-star wide receiver from LaSalle High School in Cincinnati. He is to announce via Twitter between 5:30 and 6 p.m. Sunday.
I’m hearing that Alabama is leading for the 6-foot-4, 199-pounder, ranked as the 46th best wide out prospect in the nation by Rivals, but that Kentucky is very much in the hunt.
Alabama just got a commitment from Norman, Oklahoma’s David Cornwell, rated by ESPNU as the No. 1 pocket-passer prospect in the country. That could help the Tide in its recruitment of Kief. Others believe Ohio State has the inside track.
Meanwhile, Middleton is a 6-4, 275-pounder who had offers from Louisville, Missouri, Indiana and Western Kentucky. Rivals ranked him as the No. 5 best prospect in Kentucky.
He is the second Kentuckian to commit to UK for 2014, after Conner quarterback Drew Barker. Middleton is the first interior defensive lineman. The Cats are hot after John Hardin defensive tackle Matt Elam, who is ranked as the nation’s 24th best defensive tackle prospect by Rivals and has offers from Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State and Indiana, as well as UK, U of L and WKU.
I’m hearing that Elam might not announce his commitment until he plays in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Jan. 4 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Just COMMITTED to UK #BBN Time to start liking a new color.
