G.G. Smith to be head coach at Loyola of Maryland

smithggFirst it was Rick Pitino’s son. Now it’s Tubby Smith’s son.

CBS Sports is reporting that G.G. Smith, son of Tubby, has been named head basketball coach at Loyola of Maryland.

Smith, who played his college basketball at Georgia, was an assistant for six years at Loyola. Previously, he was an assistant at Tennessee Tech and Armstrong Atlantic State. He replaces Jimmy Patsos, who took the head coaching job at Siena after going 23-12 with a loss in the CIT quarterfinals last season.

Richard Pitino, son of Rick, was named head coach at Minnesota last week after spending one year as head coach at Florida International.
