Rick Pitino and multiple NCAA Tournament winners

Since John Wooden's amazing reign of 10 national titles in 12 seasons from 1964 through 1975, eight college basketball coaches have won multiple national championships. Rick Pitino became the eighth on Monday night when his Louisville Cardinals defeated Michigan 82-76 in the title game.

Pitino is the first to win a championship at two different schools. He also went 17 years between titles, the longest strech of multiple winners in the post-Wooden Era. Or any Era, for that matter.

Here's the list of multiple winners:

  • 4-Mike Krzyzewski (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010)
  • 3-Jim Calhoun (1999, 2004, 2011)
  • 3-Bob Knight (1976, 1981, 1987)
  • 2-Denny Crum (1980, 1986)
  • 2-Billy Donovan (2006, 2007)
  • 2-Rick Pitino (1996, 2013)
  • 2-Dean Smith (1982, 1993)
  • 2-Roy Williams (2005, 2009)
