At his media opp before practice today, John Calipari clearly wanted to downplay the importance of Saturday night’s Kentucky-Missouri game at Rupp Arena. So the UK coach does what he normally does when he wants to get his point across. The question does not matter. His point is what matters.
Early on, Calipari was asked about guard play heading into Saturday night. Missouri point guard Phil Pressey is one of the best in the nation. The Tigers have other guards who can play at a high level. Kentucky’s guards, Ryan Harrow and Archie Goodwin, both played well in the Cats’ 74-70 win over Vanderbilt on Wednesday.
But Calipari didn’t want to talk about guards. He wanted to throw water on the suggestion that Saturday might be the biggest game in UK’s season, given the circumstances. Kentucky could use a marquee win, especially without Nerlens Noel and especially with just five games left in the campaign.
Cal was having none of that.
