A Kentucky-UCLA first round NCAA matchup?

USA Today has hired Patrick Stevens as its own Bracketologist and Stevens has Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament with an interesting first-round matchup.

He has Kentucky as a No. 9 seed playing No. 8 seed UCLA in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Nerlens Noel vs. Shabazz Muhammad in the opening round, not bad.

Kentucky last played UCLA in the NCAA Tournament in 1998, beating the Bruins 94-68 in the South Region in semifinals in St. Petersburg. Tubby Smith’s team went on to take the title that year.

The two teams also met in 1975, with UCLA beating Kentucky 92-85 in the NCAA finals. That was the legendary John Wooden’s final game as coach.

If Kentucky would win that game, then the Cats would probably play No. 1 seed Michigan in Auburn Hills.
