Update: ESPN is listing Jason Hatcher as committed to Kentucky.
After leaving the Ryan Timmons’ press conference at Franklin County High School, I heard ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt say on the SVP and Russillo Show that Jason Hatcher was de-committing from Southern Cal to sign with Kentucky.
Van Pelt then went on to say this was football he was talking about, not basketball, and how it must be getting rough at USC if a player is turning down the Trojans to play football at Kentucky.
Does Van Pelt know what he’s talking about as far as Hatcher’s recruitment is concerned?
Who knows. A twitter follower said that Van Pelt said he was just reading twitter messages, which could be. And I don’t believe he has any real inside information.
Van Pelt was actually voicing his displeasure with players de-committing from schools. He mentioned that SI.com’s Andy Staples disagrees with him on this, that Staples says this is the one time when a kid actually has leverage. I like Van Pelt, but I agree with Staples.
I do know this: There is growing speculation this afternoon that Kentucky has a real shot at the Trinity defensive end, who will make his official announcement on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
