Deadspin’s Manti Te’O hoax story

Deadspin has the sports world buzzing this afternoon with its release of a story that says that Notre Dame star Manti Te’O perpetuated a hoax by saying that he was dedicating the season to his late girlfriend.

Deadspin says the girlfriend did not exist.

For UK fans, the kicker is that the report involves Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel.

You can imagine the tweets and messages I’ve been getting since Deadspin’s release.

Update: Notre Dame has ┬ánow released a statement saying Te’O was the victim of a hoax.

    John:

I have no idea if Te’O was the victim of a hoax or if he was a part of it but what I DO know is all Thamel had to do was a Google search just to check his facts.

Guess that was to difficult for him to do. This clown is an unadulterated fraud and needs to be fired immediately.

How many stories has he come out with that had mistakes, errors from a factual sense and outright lies?

Journalistic integrity be damned in Pete’s world.

Like Bugs Bunny used to say in the cartoons, “what a maroon…”
