SEC links for Tuesday:
- Les Miles got burned in LSU’s 25-24 Chic-fil-A Bowl loss last night to Clemson. The Tigers opted to try and throw the ball rather than take time off the clock late, allowing Clemson to keep all three of its timeouts, and the ACC team not only got the ball back, but drove for the winning score. Blame this loss on the offense, wrote The Advocate’s Scott Rabalais.
- It was a stunning loss for the LSU Tigers, writes Jim Kleinpeter of the Times-Picayune.
- It was a great matchup and a great game, argues Glenn Guilbeau of the Shreveport Times.
- Mark Bradley of the AJC writes that it was a landmark win for the Clemson Tigers.
- Vanderbilt rolled over North Carolina State 38-24 in the Music City Bowl, and David Climer of the Tennessean writes that the Commodores have been transformed by James Franklin’s demand for excellence. Vanderbilt won nine football games this season.
- Mark Wiedmer of the Chattanooga Times Free Press writes that “Pyscho” has believers at Vandy.
In today’s Outback Bowl (1:00 p.m., ABC), South Carolina will be trying to complete a historic three-year run, says Darryl Slater of the Charleston Post and Courier.- The M Go Blog previews the Gamecocks-Wolverines from a Michigan perspective.
- Seth Emerson of the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer previews Georgia’s Capital One Bowl matchup today with Nebraska (1:00 p.m., ESPN). The fact of the matter is that this was not the bowl the Bulldogs wanted. It will be interesting to see how they respond.
- Despite the disappointment of the two teams who lost their conference championship games, opportunity does await Georgia and Nebraska, writes Matt Murschel of the Orlando Sentinel.
- Jeff Schultz of the AJC thinks that Georgia needs to finish the 2012 season on a strong note it it wants to do well in 2013.
- Brandon Marcello of the Clarion-Ledger reports that Mississippi State takes a deep crop of receivers into today’s Gator Bowl matchup with Northwestern (12:00, ESPN2).
- Joe Medley of the Anniston Star writes that 2012 ends with Alabama eyeing yet another national championship. Meanwhile, there is something about Bama and a mystery man in a boot.
- Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News says that a thin roster is to blame for Alabama’s basketball troubles. The Crimson Tide lost to Tulane on Sunday.
