Saturday at the KFC Yum Center against fourth-ranked Louisville would have been a good time for UK senior but newcomer Julius Mays to climb out of his deep shooting slump, but alas it didn’t happen.
The former Wright State star was one-of-eight from the field, including one-of-six from three-point range. The Indiana native did not make that three until there was 1:41 left on the clock. It cut Louisville’s lead to 75-70. The Cards won 80-77.
Over his last three games, Mays has made three of 23 shots. Over his last four, Mays has made eight of 37 shots. He is two-of-19 from three-point land over that stretch.
“We can’t get any production right now out of Julius and Alex (Poythress),” said John Calipari afteward, “and we are still playing five guys with Jarrod (Polson) and hanging in a game on the road.”
