It was a rough day for SEC basketball as half of the league’s teams dropped games, many to teams with less than stellar resumes.

Alabama, Auburn and Texas A&M all suffered rough losses at home.

Bama was beaten 66-59 by Mercer, a team with a 7-6 record and ranked at Mercer No. 231 in the latest Sagarin calculations. Auburn lost 74-67 to Winthrop, a team with a 5-5 record and ranked 229 by Sagarin. Southern upset Texas A&M in College Station 53-51. Southern has a 5-6 record and was ranked No. 180 by Sagarin.

In the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, Ole Miss lost 87-83 in overtime to Indiana State, which is 6-3 and ranked No. 124.

Florida and LSU both lost road games. Florida lost 67-61 to Kansas State in Kansas City. LSU lost 84-80 at Marquette. Kansas State, rated 75th by Sagarin, is 9-2. Marquette, rated 56th by Sagarin, is 8-3.

Thank goodness for 12th-ranked Missouri, which beat 10th-ranked Illinois 82-73 in St. Louis.
