Kyle Wiltjer’s shooting slump

Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari has said that he cannot play Kyle Wiltjer unless the sophomore is getting shots. Of late, however, Wiltjer has had a hard time making those shots.

In Kentucky’s first three games this season, Wiltjer shot 53.3 percent from the floor and a sizzling 63.2 percent from three-point range. He averaged 15.7 points per game during that stretch, which included a 23-point game against Lafayette.

Kentucky’s last four games, two of them losses, have seen Wiltjer cool off considerably. He shot just 29 percent during those four games, and he made just three of 22 three-point attempts (13.6 percent). He failed to reach double figures in any of the four games, averaging just 6.2 points during that span.
