Mark Stoops coached his last game last night as Florida State beat Georgia Tech 21-15 in the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte. The defensive coordinator will not coach the Seminoles in the Orange Bowl, reports Coley Harvey of the Orlando Sentinel.
“I do not want to distract anymore and there’s a lot of work to be done on both sides,” Stoops told reporters after the game. “[But] I don’t ever want to turn my back on this program and these kids. If I can help in any way and lock myself in an office with [FSU’s] defensive coaches and devise a game plan, I’ll certainly do that.”
Florida State won its first conference title since 2005.
“We wanted to send Coach Stoops off on a great note,” Lamarcus Joyner told the Tallahassee Democrat. “He deserves this as much as us.”
Kentucky fans can welcome Mark Stoops arrival, starting at 12:45 p.m. in Nicholasville.
