About last night in college basketball:
Indiana 83, North Carolina 59: Biggest game of the night and a big blowout for the Hoosiers. North Carolina missed 19 of its first 20 shots in the second half, allowing IU to pull away. Cody Zeller scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the winner. Michael Oladipo scored 19 points and freshman point guard Yogi Ferrell dished six assists. North Carolina made just one of eight three-point attempts. The young Heels have problems.
Minnesota 77, Florida State 68: This could well be Tubby Smith’s best team since he left UK for Minnesota. The Gophers are now 7-1 after the win in Tallahassee. The lone loss was to Duke in the Battle 4 Atlantis. Joe Coleman scored 16 for the Gophers. Elliott Eliason grabbed 10 rebounds. Minnesota had 17 assists on 26 field goals.
Michigan 79, North Carolina State 72: Trey Burke scored 18 points and dished 11 assists as the Wolverines beat the visiting Wolfpack. Freshman Nik Stauskas came off the bench to score 20 points for Michigan. N.C. State shot 57.1 percent and still lost, prompting Coach Mark Gottfried to say, “We’re pretty close.” N.C. State had 13 turnovers while Michigan had just six.
Colorado 85, Texas Southern 80 (2 OTs): The Buffs struggled against a Texas Southern team that’s now 1-6. Omar Strong scored 39 points for the losers. Strong made nine three-pointers. Spencer Dinwiddie led Colorado with 24.
Alabama 75, Lamar 47: The Crimson Tide remained undefeated thanks in part to 17 points and eight rebounds by Rodney Cooper. One warning sign is that Anthony Grant’s team made just 10 of 18 free throws.
Mississippi State 60, Alcorn State 42: After going 0-3 in Maui, State got a win at home to improve to 2-4. Craig Sword scored 14 points. Gavin Ware grabbed 12 rebounds.
