The wrist injury that kept Gorgui Dieng out of Louisville’s loss to Duke on Saturday night turns out to be a broken bone, the school announced tonight.
In a press release, Louisville said that Dieng will miss an undetermined amount of playing time. It will know more after seeing a hand specialist.
“An x-ray taken at Jewish Hospital when the Cardinals returned from the Bahamas on Sunday night revealed a broken scaphoid bone in his left wrist,” said the release. “His prognosis will be updated after further examination from a hand specialist on Monday.”
Dieng was injured during Louisville’s 84-61 win over Missouri in a semifinal game of the Battle 4 Atlantis. The center was in street clothes during U of L’s 76-71 loss to Duke in the title game of the Bahamas tournament.
He is averaging 8.2 points and 8.0 rebounds through five games. U of L plays host to Kentucky on December 29 at the Yum Center.
