Liveblog: Kentucky-Tennessee football

Updates from Neyland Stadium for Kentucky-Tennessee.

Final: Tennessee 37, Kentucky 17

4Q-3:41 Kentucky gets to Tennessee 40 but turns ball over on downs. Whitlow is 29 of 45 for 225 yards and one touchdown. Sanders has 54 yards rushing on 16 carries. The Vols take over and Bray is done for the day. He went 20-of-34 for 293 yards and four touchdowns.

4Q-5:36 Palardy kicks a 33-yard field goal to make it 37-17 Tennessee. Vols’ had a 45-yard run by Lane right after stopping Kentucky on the fourth-down play.

4Q-7:32 UK stopped for a loss on a fourth-and-one at the UT 32.

4Q-12:28 Tennessee completes a 27-yard pass but drive stalls around midfield. Vols put and pin UK back at the Cats’ own 4-yard line. Tennessee now has seven plays of 20+ yards on the day.

End of third quarter: Tennessee 34, Kentucky 17 

3Q-0:03 Kentucky goes three-and-out for the second straight possession.

3Q-1:31 Bray throws his fourth TD pass of the day, this one a 21-yard strike to Patterson. The Vols go 79 yards in five plays, with a defensive pass interference penalty added. Tennessee has six offensive plays of 20-or-more yards on the day. Vols up 34-17.

3Q-3:43 Kentucky goes three-and-out. All three were pass plays.

3Q-5:24 Kentucky tries a short kickoff, which ends up giving Tennessee good field position at own 39. The Vols need just six plays to score with Bray hitting Michael Rivera for the 29-yard touchdown to push lead back out to 27-17. Bray is 17-of-26 for 233 yards. He’s thrown for three touchdowns and has a passing rating of 178.7. Rivera has four catches for 52 yards. Bray was five-of-six for 61 yards on that scoring drive.

3Q-7:31. UK starts second half with 14-play drive that ends with a 29-yard Craig McIntosh field goal cutting the Tennessee lead to 20-17. Patrick Towles is out after being dinged up on his series in the first half. So Whitlow will go the rest of the way. He was seven of nine on this scoring drive. Whitlow is 20 of 30 for 170 yards and one touchdown. LaRod King has 10 catches for 78 yards. UK has outgained Tennessee 319-234.

Halftime: Tennessee 20, Kentucky 14

2Q-0:16 McIntosh misses a 36-yard field goal and UK comes up empty again on a decent drive. Kick went wide left.

2Q-2:07 Dupree sacks Bray for a 14-yard loss and the Vols punt. UK takes over at own 28. Whitlow back in at quarterback.

2Q-3:26 Kentucky is stopped for a two-yard loss on a 4th-and-1 at the UT-39-yard line. Tried to run Raymond Sanders behind the left tackle but Vols got through on penetration and stopped the play dead. Patrick Towles was the quarterback on the drive and played well, scrambling effectively and throwing a 20-yard pass to Tyler Robinson. But the fourth-down play call didn’t work and the Cats come up empty.

2Q-7:46 Hunter drops a third down pass from a scrambling Bray and Tennessee is forced to punt. UK will start at own 13, down six points.

2Q-10:18 Jonathan George bursts up the middle on a draw play and outruns the Tennessee secondary for a 45-yard TD. That’s a career-long for George. It also cuts the Vols lead to 20-14. The Cats went 73 yards in six plays. George now has 54 yards on four carries. Whitlow is nine-of-15 for 83 yards.

2Q-12:24 Bray throws to Hunter, who puts a fake on Mikie Benton and scores on a 42-yard touchdown. That completed a six-play, 64-yard drive. UK blocked the extra point so Tennessee’s lead is 20-7. The Vols have 228 total yards and we are early in the second quarter. Bray is 11-of-16 for 165 yards and two scores. Huguenin blocked the extra point.

2Q-13:59 Kentucky picks up one first down, then punts.

End of first quarter Tennessee 14, Kentucky 7. Tennessee outgained UK 154-94 in the first quarter. Whitlow was six-of-nine passing for 66 yards. Bray was eight-of-12 for 99 yards.

1Q-0:26 Tennessee goes three-and-out with a four-yard loss mixed in.

1Q-1:34 Kentucky goes three-and-out for second straight possession.

1Q-2:26 Tennessee has a 33-yard TD pass brought back by a holding penalty. The Vols did nothing after that.

1Q-4:52 Kentucky goes three-and-out after picking up 30 yards on an instant replay reversal. Darryl Collins fielded a kickoff and was ruled out of bounds at the 5, but replay showed he was already out of bounds when he caught the ball.

1Q-6:01 After TD, Kentucky tries an on-side kick that fails and gives Tennessee possession at the UK 32-yard line. Takes just four plays for the Vols to navigate the distance with Johnson scoring on a 2-yard run out of a direct snap for a 14-7 Tennessee lead. Bray is now five-of-six for 68 yards. He completed an 18-yard pass to Vincent Dallas to the 2-yard line.  Tennessee has 118 yards of total offense.

1Q-7:45 Kentucky comes right back with an 11-play, 75-yard drive for a touchdown to tie the score at 7-7. Jalen Whitlow hit D.J. Warren out of the backfield from a yard out for the score. Big play was 3rd-and-11 pass from Whitlow, who stepped up in the pocket and delivered a strike to LaRod King for a first down at the UT 44-yard line. Whitlow also threw a 29-yard pass to Jonathan George for a first down at the Vols’ 6-yard line. Whitlow was a perfect five-of-five for 55 yards on the drive. That was Warren’s first collegiate TD.

1Q-12:52 That didn’t take long. Tennessee takes opening kickoff and marches 80 yards in 8 plays with Tyler Bray hitting Zach Rogers on a 21-yard touchdown pass for a 7-0 Volunteers lead. Bray was four-of-five on the drive for 50 yards. Marlin Lane had a 14-yard run and Rajion Neal a 15-yard run on the drive.

- Kickoff is at 12:21 p.m. The game is being televised by the SEC Network.
