Report: Liggins leader for Thunder’s final roster spot

The Oklahoma City Thunder waived guard Walker Russell today, leaving four candidates for the team’s final roster spot.

And two are former Kentucky teammates.

DeAndre Liggins and Daniel Orton are among the four players fighting for the spot, according to Welcome to Loud City, the Thunder’s Sports Nation blog.

In a move that comes as no surprise, the Thunder have cut their training camp roster to 18, leaving Hollis Thompson, Andy Rautins, Daniel Orton, and DeAndre Liggins to fight for the last roster spot. Right now, the leader in that battle is DeAndre Liggins, who has seen time in 4 of the Thunder’s 5 pre-season games. This includes last night, where he was the only Training Camp invitee to get time.

I was lucky enough to see the OKC/Suns game in Tulsa Friday night. Liggins not only started but played very well. He made several hustle plays, including a diving steal at mid-court. Things UK fans are used to seeing. I could also tell he’s been working on spotting up for 3-pointers in the corners. He’ll obviously get some open looks playing with Westbrook and KD.
