A lavish light show highlighted the unveiling of the 2012-13 Kentucky basketball team for Big Blue Madness. As our own beloved Jerry Tipton writes, “Even by Big Blue Madness standards of sensory overload, the University of Kentucky outdid itself Friday night.”

And, oh yeah, there is a football game tonight in Fayetteville, Arkansas. UK will start true freshman Jalen Whitlow for the second week in a row, though this time he will not have fellow freshman Patrick Towles to share the load. Our Jennifer Smith reports that not only did Whitlow take snaps with the first team this week, he took the second-team snaps, as well, in hopes of being better prepared for the Razorbacks.
Head coach Joker Phillips says he sees a lot of Maxwell Smith in Whitlow. As a true freshman, Smith replaced injured starter Morgan Newton last year. As a true freshman, Whitlow is replacing Smith this season.
It will be a ridiculously young secondary the Cats will throw up against Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson today. And it’s not as if the rest of the defense is loaded with veterans.
There are plenty of Bobby Petrino/John L. Smith connections on the Kentucky staff. UK offensive line coach Mike Summers, secondary coach Mike Cassity and tight ends/special teams coach Greg Nord all coached with Petrino at Louisville. Nord also coached with John L. Smith, Petrino’s predecessor at Louisville and successor at Arkansas.
And then there was Matthew Mitchell channeling MC Hammer.
