E-mail: Arkansas reader says no to Bobby Petrino

Jim, a faithful reader from Arkansas, passes along what long-time columnist Wally Hall wrote in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette about Bobby Petrino.

Jim writes:

For all the people who want Bobby Petrino as the next UK football coach, look at what Homer Wally Hall had to say this morning…this is a guy who portrayed Petrino as the greatest thing since sliced bread until the wheels fell off. From a guy who took all those outside the state of Arkansas to task in anything negative about Petrino.

”You can debate it, hate it, or accept it as twisted fate, but too much leadership and experience were lost from last year’s defense and those players have not been replaced… Bobby Petrino didn’t build personal relationships with his players, so when a recruit came to campus and heard from the players that all the head coach cares about is how they perform on the field and that they were going to catch verbal hell every day, it hurt recruiting, especially with the top-ranked players… Once he lied to his bosses, and his players, not to mention the fans, there was no choice.Trust had been destroyed.”

He or Jim Tressel would be the absolutely wrong way to go. If Wally Hall is willing to write this, plus all the other stuff that you two know from his time at Auburn, Louisville, and the Falcons, I can’t imagine, my alma mater selling their soul to this guy.
