Former Tennessee wide receiver Da’Rick Rogers admitted Tuesday that failed drug tests caused him to be dismissed from the school’s football team.
“There were a couple of drugs tests,” said Rogers in a press conference to announce his enrollment at Tennessee Tech. “It wasn’t anything too crazy. It was about me being a young, immature guy, and those are things I’ve got to work on. I plan to do that.”
Rogers was the SEC’s leading receiver with 68 catches for 1,040 yards. He was a pre-season All-SEC pick before being booted for his transgressions.
Tennessee Tech opens its season Thursday against Hampton. Head coach Watson Brown said Tuesday that Rogers would suit up for the game but was not sure whether the wide out would play.
Of course, LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu was dismissed from that school because of failed drug tests. Mathieu is now in rehab and will not play in 2012.
