Former UK center Josh “Jorts” Harrellson worked out for the Miami Heat on Thursday morning and the former second-round pick of the New York Knicks hopes to get a contract offer soon from the reigning NBA champions.
The Miami Herald reports, however, that Miami is also looking at other options for frontcourt help, including former Denver Nuggets’ reserve Chris “Birdman” Anderson.
The Heat also have attracted the interest of free-agent center Chris Andersen, who recently bypassed a lucrative European offer and is believed to be amenable to a Heat offer at the NBA minimum salary, which is all the Heat, operating above the NBA salary cap, have available. Andersen was released earlier this summer by the Nuggets under the league’s amnesty provision that eases a team’s luxury-tax liability.
Miami reportedly has one spot open on its 15-man roster. It will be interesting to see which way Heat GM Pat Riley will go in filling a frontcourt need.
