Florida picks up USC transfer Damontre Harris

This one sort of snuck under the holiday radar: Florida has picked up South Carolina transfer Damontre Harris.

The 6-foot-9 forward will sit out next season but be eligible for 2013-14. He left the Gamecocks after Darrin Horn was fired as coach and Frank Martin hired as the replacement. He will have two years of eligibility remaining at Florida.

Last season as a sophomore, Harris averaged 6.8 points and 5.5 rebounds.

He visited Kansas and Florida before picking the Gators.

“I pretty much look at it like a new chapter in my life, a new experience,” Harris told the Fayetteville Observer.
