Tennessee’s scholarship football players post 1.9 GPA

More problems on Rocky Top.

Bad enough that Bruce Pearl ran afoul of the NCAA, the Tennessee football team lost to Kentucky and (sadly) Pat Summitt has been forced to step down.

Now, Knoxville radio show host Jimmy Hyams reports that the Vols’ football team is having widespread academic problems.

Hyams tweets:

UT FB team had GPA of 2.06 last fall, 1.9 among scholarship players. 30 players on academic probation, 6 walkons. 2 on scholarhip are gone

Derek Dooley disappointed with players poor academic performance in fall. Said he didn’t know full extent of report until late last fall.

That’s more bad news for Dooley, who has to be on thin ice in Knoxville. His Vols failed to make a bowl game last season, the loss to Kentucky knocking UT out of bowl eligibility. He is also working for a new athletic director in Dave Hart, who just cut 17 staff positions within the Tennessee athletics department.

In two years at Tennessee, Dooley is 11-14 overall and 4-12 in the SEC.
