Kentucky basketball player notes:
Twany Beckham: Has played just five minutes in two SEC games. Still has not taken a shot this season.
Anthony Davis: His 11 points against Alabama is his lowest total since he scored 10 against Lamar on December 28. Davis has blocked 26 shots in five SEC games, including four against the Crimson Tide. He did have a career-high four steals on Saturday. His two field goals on Saturday is his lowest total since he went one-of-two against Penn State on November 19.
Missed his first seven shots against Alabama before a follow dunk off a Marquis Teague miss with 4:43 left gave UK a 29-24 lead. He end up one-of-nine from the floor in the first half. His dunk off a fast break with 14:50 left in the second half, making it 49-43 Kentucky, was his only credited shot of the second half. He blocked an Alabama shot with seven seconds left and made two important free throws with 4.5 seconds remaining. With 6:30 left in the first half, he had missed his only field goal attempt, was one-of-four from the foul line and had one rebound.
Terrence Jones: His 15 points against Alabama is his highest total since he scored 20 against South Carolina in UK’s SEC opener. Jones has made 12 of 23 field goals in his last three games. He made just six of his 12 free throws on Saturday and is just 11-of-20 from the line for 55 percent over his last two games.
Began the game against Alabama by making just one of three free throws in the first two minutes. When Jones missed the first of two free throws at the 19:40 mark of the second half, Kentucky was four-of-12 from the foul line for the afternoon. Jones did nail a three-pointer from the top of the key at the 18:41 mark to give the Cats a 41-36 lead in the second half. With 6:656 left, he rebounded Marquis Teague’s airball and scored to give the Cats a 62-57 lead. That would turn out to be Kentucky’s final field goal.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist: Played 23 minutes against Alabama, his lowest total since 22 in the St. John’s game on December 1. MKG picked up his first foul at the 15:42 mark, his second at 10:04. He had eight of UK’s 20 points at that time in the game. He did not score again until the 9:38 mark of the second half, putting the Cats up 55-50. He made two free throws with 7:47 left, but missed the front end of the bonus at 6:07. He fouled out at 1:07, the second time this season he has fouled out of a game. The first time was against Loyola-Maryland on Dec. 22.
Doron Lamb: Made five of his eight shots on Saturday and is now 10-of-20 from the floor over his last two games. Lamb has hit hit four of his last seven three-pointers over his last three games. Did not start Saturday for the fourth straight game.
Entered the game with 16:31 left in the first half for Terrence Jones. Thirty-one seconds later, he made a three-pointer out of the left corner for an 8-5 Kentucky lead. Made another three at 15:18 to make it 11-8. Had hit double figures, 10 points, by the 3:46 mark of the first half, scored four more points the rest of the way. His last field goal came at the 17:47 mark of the second half.
Darius Miller: The senior played 29 minutes, most since he logged 31 against Arkansas-Little Rock on January 3. Miller played all 20 minutes in the first half, then nine in the second. His 11 points marked his second straight game in double figures. He made a three-pointer with 14:18 left in first half to give UK a 14-8 lead. He made another three with 2:38 left in first half when his man left to double-team Terrence Jones. That gave the Cats a 34-27 lead.
He missed the second of two free throws with 4:09 remaining, and UK up 65-61, but then went a perfect four-for-four at the line inside the final minute. He made the first two with 54.7 seconds left to make it 71-67, the second two with 14 seconds left to make it 75-71. Miller also was credited with four assists, the eighth game this season in which he has produced four-or-more assists. He has only four rebounds in his last three gmaes.
Marquis Teague: Tied his career-high in minutes with 38 against Alabama. Teague also played 38 at Tennessee the Saturday. Played all 20 minutes of the first half against Bama. Teague scored 10 points on Saturday, his highest total since 12 at Auburn. Teague had just one assist and three turnovers against the Crimson Tide. Missed two free throws at the 6:11 mark of the first half, but made two free throws with 24.8 seconds left to make it 73-69 after being fouled off the ball by Bama’s Trevor Releford.
Eloy Vargas: Did not play against Alabama. It was the first game this season in which Vargas did not see action.
Kyle Wiltjer: Played just six minutes against the physical Tide. It was his fewest minutes in a home game since played five minutes in the win over North Carolina on Dec. 3. Since the calendar turned over to 2012, the freshman has made three of 10 three-point shots. Hit an open three-pointer at the 5:41 mark of the first half for a 27-22 Kentucky lead.
