With 11:51 left last night at Auburn Arena, the host Auburn Tigers had outrebounded No. 2 Kentucky by a count of 31-15.
Over the final 11:50, however, the Cats dominated the boards 14-4.
The interesting thing is that John Calipari’s team did it via gang rebounding. Doron Lamb, Terrence Jones and Anthony Davis each had three rebounds in those final 12 minutes. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had two boards. Meanwhile, two of Auburn’s four rebounds were team rebounds, meaning they were rebounds that end up out of bounds, etc., with the ball being awarded to Auburn.
Six of UK’s 14 rebounds in the final stretch were offensive rebounds, with Kidd-Gilchrist and Davis each taking two. Auburn had just two offensive rebounds in the final 12 minutes.
Here is the breakdown, with “MP” meaning minutes played in the final 12 minutes.
