Phillips on black unis: “And crowd goes wild”

Joker Phillips confirmed after practice that Kentucky will wear black uniforms against Mississippi State on Saturday.

“I’ve been hit with haymakers about black uniforms by the players, by you guys, by the fans. It was something that we wanted to do just to throw the guys a bone. We pulled them out today at the team meeting. We had Danny (Trevathan) and Winston (Guy) dressed in them, and the crowd goes wild. Anything we can do to get some excitement. I think there will be more excitement if we make plays in those black uniforms.”

Photo evidence of a black-out for UK football on Saturday

Kudos to first Kent Spencer and then Jon Hale of Ky Forward who tweeted out the link to this picture on the Kentucky Wildcats’ photos page. Looks like there could actually be a black-out for Saturday’s UK-Mississippi State game, which is a 7 p.m. start.

I didn’t want to swipe the work, so click this link for the bigger black uniform picture.

UPDATE: UK Athletics News twitter feed makes it official. Are you in favor? Click the continue line to vote in the poll.

UK basketball target Willie Cauley to decide next week

The Kansas State blog Wildcat Victory is reporting that Kentucky basketball target Willie Cauley will make his decision next week.

“He had good visits from each program he went to,” his AAU coach Rodney Perry told the website. “There were things that he liked about each place and there were some things that he didn’t like. So it’s just a matter of what’s the best situation, the fit and the best system for him.”

Alabama, Florida, Kansas State and Kentucky are Cauley’s four finalists. Perry said the 6-foot-11, 210-pound center is expected to have a press conference to announce his decision.

Cauley is ranked as the nation’s best 28th prospect in Class of 2012 by Scout. He’s also a pretty decent football receiver.
