Transcript of John Calipari’s post-game press conference

John Calipari’s post-game press conference, as provided by UK:

COACH CALIPARI

THE MODERATOR: Questions for Coach Calipari.

Q. John, afterwards coming through, fans were buzzing like crazy. Do you try to calm any of that enthusiasm based on how the team played?

COACH CALIPARI: I bet you we’d be really good against the Washington Generals right now, doing the weave and all the other stuff.

We’ve got to be a great defensive team and we’re not right now. Now, do you see why I don’t like playing zone? Played zone the last nine minutes. It was like… (shakes head)

The other thing is they got to get guys playing together. Like Terrence (Jones) has got to play with Anthony Davis. They got to be on the court together and they haven’t been.

I mean, if you watched that as a pickup game, you were really excited because there were dunks. We were 1 9 from 3 because Doron (Lamb) couldn’t make a shot during the first half. Darius (Miller) has 11 [points] until the very end of the game where he hit 3s. Kyle (Wiltjer) and Anthony just aren’t tough enough right now.

Updates from the Blue-White Scrimmage at Rupp

You can follow the liveblog.  Or follow on twitter . Updates from the Blue-White scrimmage:

  • Terrence Jones finishes with 52 as Blue wins 126-104. Wiltjer scored 27. Polson dunked near game’s end to big roar. Lamb scored 31. Davis had 27. Check blog later for video, stats, notes, ect.
  • With 3:48 left, Miller now up to 24 points. He’s made four of eight three-points. Yes, the freshmen are very good. But don’t sleep on the vets. Jones has 50 points. Lamb has played well. He has 26. And Miller has shown improvement.
  • Jones has 432 points with 7:44 left, but am impressed with Kidd-Gilchrist. He gets a lot of different things done. Always hustling. He can create turnovers on defense, and be the garbage guy on offense. He’ll get more than his fair share of loose balls this year.
  • With 13:02 left, Ryan Harrow throws it off the backboard to Jones for a jam. Terrence has 37 points. Doron Lamb has had a good half. He now has 17 points. Gilchrist has 17 points. Anthony Davis has 17 points.
  • With 15:43 left in game, Terrence Jones has 33 points. Darius Miller leads everyone with five assists. Marquis Teague has four. This has pretty much been one fast break after another in the second half. Blue, led by Jones, leads the White team 68-56.

Report: Mitch McConnell blocking WVU’s move to Big 12

(AP photo)

Minority leader and Kentucky senator Mitch McConnell is trying to block West Virginia’s move to the Big East, reports the New York Times.

Citing sources, the Times says McConnell is lobbying the Big 12 on behalf of Louisville, his hometown school. This is after reports Monday that the Big 12 was set to invite West Virginia to it membership in the likely event that Missouri would withdraw from the league to join the SEC.

The Charleston Daily Mail reports that the WVU move to the Big 12 has been put on hold.

In my book, Louisville is  a better candidate than West Virginia. U of L has a better overall sports program, etc. West Virginia has a slight edge in football at the moment, but Louisville has proven that it can produce a national contender in the sport.

There are some who believe that the Big 12 may compromise and add both, then add another school for 12 members. But the league has said previously it plans on staying at 10 for the time being.
