SEC links for Tuesday:
- Tennessee could find itself right back in the NCAA doghouse, reports the AP. A former football assistant is accused of paying for a recruit’s visit.
- Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne says the Aggies intend to win in the SEC, reports Hugh Kellenberger of the Clarion-Ledger. Texas A&M didn’t do a whole lot of winning in the Big 12, however.
- Mike Strange of the Knoxville News-Sentinel writes that there are some previous SEC ties to Texas A&M. One is former UT legend Robert Neyland who spent a year in College Station before going to West Point.
- Matt Hinton of Yahoo Sports looks at which school might end up being the SEC’s lucky 14th. His conclusion is very close to mine.
- Missouri coach Gary Pinkel says he stands by comments knocking the Big 12, reports Mike Dearmond of the Kansas City Star. Pinkel had said, ““We have problems in our league, and we all know what most of them are. But we don’t solve them.”
- It will be mentor vs. protege when Alabama’s Nick Saban meets Florida’s Will Muschamp on Saturday, writes Don Kausler of the Birmingham News. It’s an 8 p.m. start on CBS.
- Bama linebacker C.J. Mosley could miss the Florida game, reports Michael Casagrande for the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer.
- Georgia true freshman receiver Malcolm Mitchell is catching on quickly, writes Seth Emerson of the Macon Telegraph. Mitchell leads the Bulldogs with 17 catches.
