Starting today, we’ll be spotlighting UK fans on twitter.
With any luck, this will be a Monday-Friday feature in which we spotlight one twitter follower, who also just happens to be a Kentucky basketball fan or Kentucky football fan or both.
You don’t have to follow me (@johnclayiv) to qualify, but it’s the easiest way to get my attention. You can also e-mail me (jclay@herald-leader.com) with recommendations, suggestions, etc.
Today we start with Lee Weatherly, a UK Law School grad and Charleston, South Carolina attorney whose twitter feed is @LeeWeatherly.
When asked for some bio info, Lee replied:
I was born in Louisville (to two UofL grads!) but grew up in London where I played basketball for Steve Wright at South Laurel. I went to Centre College in Danville (where I was a human victory cigar for the basketball team…if I got in, someone was getting blown out!) and then to UK for law school.
You’ll notice that my twitter background photo (I attached a copy) is of (my distant cousin) Rex Chapman, Kenny Walker and me in 7th grade. Rex’s grandmother set that up at Sue Bennett College and it was likely one of the top five moments of my childhood.
Currently I’m a lawyer in Charleston, South Carolina where I’ve lived for the last eight years. However, I still hold UK season football tickets and miss no more than one game per season, usually due to the wedding of a non-football fan. My wife, who is from Delaware, thinks I am slightly insane but she still makes the drive with me every weekend in the Fall. I opened a twitter account at the urging of my friend Brian Johnston during this year’s SEC tournament (his bachelor party) because he was able to get news about Doron Lamb’s ankle on his iPhone while sitting in the Georgia Dome and I was not. That, and the fact that my other friend, J.Ed Lowe, had just received notice that he was now being followed by Tee Martin made it a no brainer. I had to be a part of that.

John,
Good piece about a good dude. I met Lee at the South Carolina football game in Columbia in 2009. He knew my cousin, who I was on the road trip with. As luck would have it, he had read a piece I’d written about my road trip the day before because you had linked to it on this blog. Great moment for me to hear that. We’d been to UK law a few years apart. Lee and I remain internet friends, commenting about the Cats on Facebook, etc. Strange new world we live in.
Was Lee the guy who found out a lot of the information that other schools were not in complience with the NCAA’s vacated wins policy and sent them a long e-mail about it?
If I remember correctly it was a lawyer who dug up a lot of the info but I don’t remember if it was Lee.
I know John mentioned something about it in his column writing about the stupidity of what the NCAA was doing.
Mark Liptak
That was me, Mark. I still haven’t received a response to my letter and as far as I know San Diego State has received no inquiry from the NCAA regarding his 400th win celebration.
Lee:
All I can tell you is two thumbs up for what you did.
I’m the play by play guy for Idaho State and we actually open the season at UTEP on November 12th.
They were also listed as having vacated records counted in their “official” publications. I’m going to check with their SID Mark Brunner to see if anything developed from their standpoint with the NCAA.
I’ll let you know as we get closer to the start of the season.
John knows how I feel about those arrogant, self important clowns and again I appreciate your efforts to embarrass them. (I know that wasn’t your intention but the result was just the same.)
You seemed to do more in a few hours work than either the NCAA or a number of “mainstream” media outlets did during this entire situation.
