Stuart Hines says line should be strength of the offense

At SEC Media Days on Thursday in Hoover, Alabama, Kentucky offensive lineman Stuart Hines answered questions from those who wonder if the Cats will have trouble scoring points minus Randall Cobb, Derrick Locke and Chris Matthews.

An excerpt of what Hines told ESPN’s Edward Aschoff:

Kentucky returns four veteran starters on the offensive line that has the makings of being one of the best in this league, accumulating more than 60 combined starts in their careers.

Senior guard Stuart Hines leads the group with 24 career starts and has enjoyed the praise he and his other fellow linemen have received this year and expects it to be the guiding force for the Wildcats’ offense this fall.

To win in the SEC, you have to stop the run

Joker Phillips was asked about new defensive coordinator Rick Minter at SEC Media Days.

To be a good defense in the SEC, you have to stop the run. For today’s chart, let’s look at how UK has fared when it holds the opponent under 150 yards rushing. Over the last 10 years, the Cats are 27-14 when they have managed that feat. They are 27-54 when the opponent rushes for at least 150 yards. Narrow it to the SEC. The Cats have held just 19 SEC opponents under 150 yards rushing over the past 10 years. But they have won seven of those 19 games. When SEC foes have rushed for at least 150 yards, they own a 46-16 record against the Cats.
