Hat tip to Jay Bilas for this one, as Bilas tweeted: SDSU and Steve Fisher celebrated 400th win this season, too: http://t.co/lfe2ZkU. Does NCAA need to take off socks to count vacated wins?”And it’s true, San Diego State does include Fisher’s vacated victories on its school web site.
The web site lists Fisher’s record in 1991-92 season with Michigan as 25-9, when the NCAA says it is 24-8 because of vacated games in Final Four that year.
Fisher’s 1992-93 (31-5), 1995-96 (21-11) and 1996-97 (24-11) seasons were also vacated at Michigan, but that is not reflected on the San Diego State web site.
And here is Mountain West Conference saying that Fisher picked up his 400th career win this season. If you take out Fisher’s vacated games, he actually has 335 victories.
The NCAA instructed UK to stop including John Calipari’s vacated wins in its victory totals for the coach, and Kentucky today said it would comply.
Update: Kudos also to Lee Weatherly, who sent me this info yesterday. (I just overlooked it.)
Update: Connecticut does not include Jim Calhoun’s two vacated 1996 NCAA Tournament wins in his total record.

Hurry up John…send this over to Tipton. Let’s see what he does with it!

John,
I like your work. However, I’d truly love to know Jerry Tipton’s take on the SDSU stuff.
Probably the same thing as his take on Patterson’s “so called” auto, Azabuike’s (sorry about the spelling)dad’s legal troubles, Rondo’s issues.
Basically if it’s “good journalism” (his definition of course) and can make UK look bad – never mind that the stories were either 100% wrong or in bad taste, he’s all for it. If it doesn’t involve UK he could care less. Not important.
By the way reports are out tonight that Alabama apparently does include Nick Saben’s “vacated” wins in their media guide, press releases.
STOP THE PRESSES, CALL THE NCAA!!!!!!!!!! IT’S A CRISIS OF EPIC PROPORTIONS. LOL

this is me not reading jerry tipton
Good job Mr. Clay. I wish your co-hort Tipton could do the same. That’s the reason I quit reading and clicking on his articles a long time ago. He NEVER writes anything positive about UK sports.
I stopped reading Tipton years ago – he’s a HACK. Don’t click on his link don’t buy the paper…eventually enough people will ignore him and he’ll go away…what a sad, sad man.
First off, my hat is off to John Clay for his ability to tarnish the Adolph Rupp Cup. Mr. Clay must really hate the legendary Kentucky coach to attempt to drag his name through the mud by arguing the most recent recipient of the Adolph Rupp Cup is some sort of corrupt menace to society.
I will agree, Coach Fisher should not be recognizing any wins that the NCAA ordered to be vacated. He should not be treated any differently than Coach Calipari in how many wins he is entitled to claim, or at least questionable wins should be duly footnoted.
By the way, on January 12th of 2011, if you count the questionable wins of Coach Fisher, he won his 400th collegiate game as a coach. He refused to answer any questions about his personal milestone in interviews after the game and commented on what a good well coached team UNLV (that night’s opponent) was rather than accept any praise or even talk of him winning 400 games.
Yes, all colleges should give a correct representation of their coach’s accomplishments, yet I would not be to quick to tarnish Fisher, Calipari or any other winner of the Adolph Rupp Cup based purely on some surface information.
