Jay Bruce and a few late afternoon notes

A few late afternoon notes:

- Jay Bruce has hit 12 homers this month. He went three-for-four last night in Cincinnati’s much-needed 7-3 win over Milwaukee. He’s hitting .346 for the month. And remember, Bruce is just 24.

Some have asked why Bruce isn’t hitting clean-up. Jim Day of the Reds’ TV team tweets that Bruce is career 4-for-31 in the No. 4 spot, with one homer and two runs batted in. Day does admit that’s a small sample size.

- Just called up, 29-year-old Chad Reinke will make his Reds’ debut tonight against the Brewers. It will be his sixth major league game, and fifth start. He has not pitched in the majors since 2009 with Oakland.

- Great to be back from furlough, and back on twitter where someone with seven followers can call you “clueless.”

- Great to see that Louisville and Memphis will be renewing their college basketball rivarly in a two-year stint in 2011-12 and 2012-13.

- Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner isn’t ready to buy into tablets, and says so in an interview with Ad Age.

Meanwhile, a Forbes magazine blogger thinks that Wenner is nuts.

- Thanks to Jordan, who had the best explanation of John Calipari’s curious tweets.

- I say the Heat will beat the Mavs in six games. Hope I’m wrong.

- Brandon Knight will be on Larry Glover’s show tonight. That’s 6-8 p.m. on WVLK-590 in Lexington.

- Perhaps more shameless than Jim Tressel’s cover-up at Ohio State was athletic director Gene Smith issuing his statement via YouTube.

- With the lockout on-going, Cris Collinsworth will coach the wide receivers at Highlands High School.

- Hopefully, the second time is the charm as Zenyatta is once again in foal to Bernadini.

- Read Jason Whitlock on Jim Tressel.

I don’t tweet or have any followers on Twitter, but I feel like I can call anyone clueless (as long as I am right:)
