In today’s Kentucky basketball media opp, John Calipari was asked about the possible new arena vs. re-doing Rupp Arena debate. He claimed he had not had time to form opinion, but did say that whatever happens should be “the gold standard” befitting the program.

On the ESPN college basketball blog, various writers are making individual pitches for the big three Player of the Year candidates — Jimmer Fredette, Kemba Walker and Jared Sullinger.

But in a “best of the rest” post, Eammon Brennan tosses a Terrence Jones candidacy into the mix.

Writes Brennan:

Terrence Jones, Kentucky: If you’re surprised by this pick, you probably haven’t been paying much attention. Or perhaps you’re paying too much. If it’s the latter, you probably saw John Calipari’s recent tirade at his talented freshman forward and thought, “Man, Jones must not be playing well, huh?” Quite the contrary: Jones is one of the most well-rounded and efficient players in the country, a player whose unique scoring talent is eclipsed only by his defense and rebounding.

Before Friday’s practice, Kentucky players Jarrod Polson, Josh Harrellson and Darius Miller talked about Saturday’s game against Georgia, which beat the Cats 77-70 in Athens earlier this month.
