Jeff Van Gundy’s return; get ready for Herm Edwards

Ten random notes at 10:

  1. Brandon Knight is really good, but the player I was most impressed with Tuesday night was Terrence Jones. Had seen Jones in practice back before Canada trip, but that was an injured Jones, and in no way shape or form the Terrence that scored 29 points in Tuesday night’s scrimmage.
  2. That said, this team really needs Enes Kanter.
  3. As for the Harrellson tweet controversy, I’m not the first to say this, but I think Calipari’s reaction to Josh’s tweet was similar to Josh’s reaction to Cal’s comment.
  4. Terrible, terrible story today about a tragic death during Notre Dame’s football practice. A 20-year-old student and video crew worker died when the film tower he was working from fell.
  5. Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel asks the obvious question: How long before Pat Riley takes over coaching the Heat?
  6. Rooting for a short World Series only because it means the less we are exposed to Tim McCarver.
  7. On the other hand, I welcome the return of the NBA for the return of Jeff Van Gundy.
  8. I’m guessing Derrick Locke does not play Saturday.
  9. I’m in Rupp Arena busy liveblogging the Blue-White scrimmage on Tuesday when this pops up on my Tweet Deck from @bickett (I don’t even follow @bickett): @KySportsRadio I’m sitting behind @johnclayiv at the game. His Live Blog looks lonely.” The tweet itself didn’t bother me. What bothered me is that if he was sitting behind me, he had a clear view of my ample bald spot.
  10. In honor of Herm Edwards being on the ESPNU broadcast crew for Saturday’s UK-Mississippi State game:

Poll: Should UK ban its athletes from Twitter?

With the recent Twitter problems concerning first Randall Cobb in football and now Josh Harrellson in basketball, this seems like an appropriate poll question:

Oh boy is Joker Phillips going to be in trouble at home

After Wednesday’s practice, UK coach Joker Phillips said Derrick Locke missed practice, and status remains uncertain for Saturday. He also said that his top receivers did return to practice, and he answered questions about the discipline given to Matt Roark after that receiver’s DUI charge over the weekend.

In answering those discipline questions, however, Phillips jokingly said something that may get in some hot water with his wife, Leslie. (Listen for our reaction.)

More Twitter trouble, this time Josh Harrellson

Josh Harrellson

Josh Harrellson

Now another UK player has gotten into Twitter trouble.

Only this time, the player has been kicked off Twitter, for the time being.

Yes, as John Calipari tweeted a bit earlier, Josh Harrellson has been put on Twitter suspension.

Harrellson complained via Twitter for not getting a Calipari copliment after his 26-rebound performance in the Blue-White Scrimmage.

Hat tip to blog reader UK Boo, who reports that Harrellson tweeted:

“Either we are the worst offensive rebounding team or he had gotten better”!!! Just amazing to me I can’t get a good job or way to go

yes he has been working hard this off season… It is just amazing to me but I look past it and keep trucking! You can’t stop this train!!!

Now Harrellson’s Twitter account has been shut down.

Meanwhile, Cal tweeted:

UKCoachCalipari John Calipari
Please don’t fault Josh. He’s never dealt w/ how to handle success. I promoted him to the 1st team & told the team to applaud his effort.

And then:

UKCoachCalipari John Calipari
I’m looking for consistency in practice, scrimmages & games. He won’t be tweeting until he’s responsible enough to handle success & failure.
