CBS Sports’ Garry Parrish has weighed in on the Enes Kanter Eligibility Event, or something like that.
It’s a good piece, by the way.
An excerpt:
But what I will do is tell you that though many of the details in this week’s well-reported New York Times story shocked casual fans, nothing printed should’ve surprised Kentucky officials because they had to know what they were getting into when they opted to accept a commitment from Kanter last March.
I mean, everybody else knew.
In my years of covering college basketball, I’ve never heard an incoming freshman called a “pro” more than Kanter has been called a pro by industry sources. One coach who initially recruited Kanter but quickly stopped told me he did so after determining “the kid should be ruled ineligible for life.” Other coaches have laughed when I told that story, but nobody has ever argued the other side.

I do not like gambling on UK basketball. Maybe we need a coach that takes it as seriously as the fans do.
So, Coach Cal doesn’t take it seriously? Seriously? Are you kidding me? WOW!!!
Hey y’all. Tubby did the same thing when he tried to bring Morris back. Was he a pro? Did he take agent money during the draft period?
This is no different. We know up front there is a question about eligibility. The NCAA changed its rule to deal with these issues. We have a Turk Team that DOES NOT WANT Katner eligible.
The NCAA will get the facts and rule. There is little risk to UK, if any. The only risk is if he is ruled eligible and new facts come out later that require reevaluation. Not likely. The Turk team has already poisoned the well as best it could. Now the NCAA will have to make its findings of fact and rule.
Washington’s coach Romar knew this same stuff when he thought he would get Katner.
Mr. Clay you sir should thank KSR for all the hits your blog has been receiving. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t even have known you wrote for the newspaper, much less that you had a blog. And then to call them out as being homers, tell us something we didn’t know. I no longer buy the lexington herald leader because it is worthless. I haven’t purchased the Lexington Herald for over 10 years yet I still subscibe to my local weekly paper. I can get all my sports news for free on KSR. Maybe you and the rest of the sports staff should model yourselfs after KSR. KSR readers are still growing in numbers, can you say the same the lexington herald? Thanks and have a great day.
btw
KSR is more accurate than the herald leader also
I agree with the above poster. Dismiss KSR all you want John, but you cannot ignore the fact that more and more people get their UK sports info these days from Kentucky Sports Radio. They are simply bigger than you (by that I mean that they are read more often and by more people)–or any other sports writer at the LHL, for that matter–and as newspapers continue to die, so too will the popularity of KSR-like blogs continue to increase and be seen as a reliable source of information (for better or for worse). Rather than turn your nose up to KSR and write them off as a “cheerleader site” for UK, you’d be wise to learn from them so that you may figure out how to attract more readers to your pages (and getting hits through drawing the ire of KSR readers who come here to post in support of their beloved site does not count).
