Evan Daniels of Scout.com is reporting that Eloy Vargas, 6-foot-11 center has committed to Kentucky this weekend.
Vargas is a 6-foot-10 center/power forward from Hollywood, Florida who played nine games for Florida in 2008-09, averaging 0.6 points per game, then left Gainesville and played at Miami-Dade College. Vargas was the conference player of the year at Miami-Dade after his team finished 12-14.
Here’s a post from the Orlando Sentinel’s Jeremy Fowler when Vargas left UF last August.
And a story from Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star when Vargas was supposed to visit Airzona.
Update with one more past link: Kevin Brockway’s story in the Gainesville Sun when Vargas left school.

Whew! Now we get to work!
He has to sit out a year, correct?
No. He’s court eligible this year, as long as he finishes his class work at community college.
Interesting. He lost an inch of height between the first two sentences. And had a modest change in position, too.
What is his GPA? He should graduate by December 2011. Will all his credits transfer? Could not make it in the SEC before, can he find playing time under Cal?
Remember that he was injured his first year at UF. He had great numbers at Juco, though they are not always reliable (but neither are High School numbers). If he isn’t hurt, there is reason to believe he can play at this level.
Thanks for the reminder Jack. This is one of those young students Coach Cal invites to his house for a family dinner. I hope he wears out the nets and the books all at once.
